In the 1980s, flannel and grunge black became the new Easter hues. The design concept of Honda’s automobiles seems to be constant. The next generation of Honda’s Civic Hatchback will feature a more subdued design to better compete with the Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, and Subaru Impreza. The Civic Hatchback, the previous model, has an aggressive stance and an origami-like appearance. Restrained? Yes. Boring? Possibly. Does it, however, have the potential to boost sales? Most likely, to use a polite word. For the 2020 model year, in addition to the standard 2.0L inline-four engine, there will be a 1.5L turbocharged four-banger engine option. You may, however, still choose a CVT with this model, but the hatchback is your best bet for shifting gears manually. Both cars were tested in Sport Touring trim levels.

With the recent decline in demand for sporty hatchbacks and the new 2018 model’s Euro-inspired fastback style, the Honda Civic is likely to attract even more buyers who like its sporty look. All headlights and taillights are LED on all versions; the more costly ones include LED fog lights. One-touch power moonroofs and twin exhaust finishers are standard on EX-L vehicles, while they are optional on Sport Touring variants. Only the EX-L comes with 17-inch wheels, which are standard on the other two variants. A blacked-out look has been applied to the Sport’s window surrounds and other exterior features.
When it comes to the Civic Hatchback’s rear seats, Honda claims that they’re the most spacious they’ve ever been. Back- and front-seat passengers have 37.4 inches of legroom and 37.1 inches of headroom, respectively. Simplicity is key to creating the illusion of greater space, yet the overall result is still effective. Despite the absence of eight-way power-adjustable front seats in lower-tier versions, the seats are comfortable and it’s easy to see ahead. In addition to standard options like heated front seats and leather upholstery, safety features have become even more extensive. Spending time at the Civic Hatch is a terrific way to pass the time.
With a 2.0-liter I4 engine and two transmission choices, the basic Civic Sedan is identical to the Civic Coupe in terms of performance. On both the LX and Sport variants, the CVT automatic gearbox is standard. However, a six-speed manual transmission is also an option for the Sport model. A manual transmission is offered for the Sport Touring variant, which has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.
The Civic Hatch CVT now has a sport mode, much like the sedan. Consequently, the CVT revs up to the Civic’s maximum power of 6,000 rpm in this mode. CVTs are generally something we dislike, but those that have been aggressively programmed could be interesting. In the end, however, if you want to experience the full potential of your vehicle, stick to the manual.
2023 Honda Civic Release Date and Price
The basic LX model of the 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback costs $22,900 MSRP, while the Sport model costs $24,100 regardless of transmission. The Sport Touring is priced at $29,400, while the EX-L is priced at $26,600 with two transmission choices. Honda’s $1,015 shipping and handling fee is not included in the price.
